BUSAN, South Korea – Ahead of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Strategic Cooperation between the People’s Committee of Can Tho City and the Busan Metropolitan Government, TDICI held a working session with Vietnam’s Trade Counsellor in the South Korea to discuss measures to strengthen bilateral investment cooperation and promote foreign investment into Vietnam, particularly the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of expanding Vietnam – South Korea economic relations and growing efforts by both countries to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, high technology and sustainable development. Participants exchanged views on emerging investment trends, the evolving needs of Korean enterprises and opportunities arising from closer connectivity between local governments and the business community.
During the discussions, Trade Counsellor Pham Khac Tuyen shared updates on South Korea’s investment landscape and highlighted the role of Vietnam’s Trade Office in supporting Korean enterprises seeking opportunities in Vietnam. He emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional linkages, improving market information exchange and facilitating business matchmaking to help investors identify suitable projects and reliable local partners. These efforts, he noted, would contribute to expanding investment cooperation and enhancing the resilience of bilateral supply chains.
Representatives of TDICI presented Can Tho’s investment potential, highlighting the city’s strategic location as the economic center of the Mekong Delta, its improving transport infrastructure and its orientation toward high-tech industry, logistics, smart urban development and green growth. The company also outlined opportunities for Korean investors in industrial development, infrastructure, innovation and technology-driven sectors aligned with the city’s long-term development strategy.
Both sides agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation between government agencies, trade promotion organizations and the private sector to facilitate investment flows and foster practical business partnerships. They also underscored the value of maintaining regular dialogue and information sharing to better connect Korean enterprises with investment opportunities in Can Tho and other localities across Vietnam.
The working session formed part of a series of engagements surrounding the MOU, which is expected to establish a long-term framework for collaboration in trade and investment promotion, smart city development, digital transformation, logistics, education and people-to-people exchanges. The agreement is seen as an important step toward expanding economic connectivity between the two cities and creating new opportunities for sustainable investment and regional development.
TDICI reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Vietnam’s Trade Office in South Korea, government agencies and business partners from both countries to support the implementation of investment promotion initiatives and facilitate high-quality projects that contribute to the sustainable socio-economic development of Can Tho and the wider Mekong Delta.
