There is a noteworthy figure: on average, each Vietnamese person consumes more than 60 kg of plastic per year. However, the plastic recycling rate currently reaches only about 20% to 25%. These statistics were presented at the seminar ‘Vietnam’s Plastic Industry in the Era of Transformation,’ held to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Vietnam Plastics Association (VPA).
The high volume of plastic consumption combined with a low recycling rate is placing immense pressure on the environment. Therefore, increasing the recycling rate is a critical mission for the domestic plastic industry in the coming years. In addition to raising consumer awareness regarding plastic use, the Vietnam Plastics Association proposes the development of specialized recycling industrial parks. This includes ensuring legal frameworks, technical infrastructure, and incentive policies to create a favorable environment for businesses to grow within this sector.
